HerbalScience was founded in 2001 in Naples, Florida by sequential entrepreneur Robert Gow and banker and consumer product expert David H. P. King, who set their sights on bringing significant technological innovation and value creation to the rapidly growing botanical ingredients arena for functional foods and consumer products. Knowing that breakthrough technologies would be required to achieve their goal of producing batch-to-batch-reliable and evidence-based functional ingredients from diverse botanical sources, they recruited leading botanical scientists, chemists and chemical engineers and began developing a new generation of proprietary extraction technologies and equipment to manufacture reproducible ingredients from variable botanical feed stocks. After developing five generations of extraction equipment, HerbalScience designed, developed and opened in Singapore today’s most advanced botanical extraction research and development facility.
After developing the breakthrough technology that enabled the production of batch-reliable functional ingredients, the technology development effort was directed toward creating a Platform Technology that could utilize modern and state-of-the-art biomedical tools and capabilities as well as expertise to establish and validate function and mode-of-action. In this way, state-of-the-art analytical equipment was acquired 2007. Later that year, the HerbalScience Naples, Florida, facility developed an entirely new approach to the discovery of key bioactive compounds in botanicals.
